The owners envisioned a family residence within a suburban setting near Nairobi — a home that could bring the
entire family together while offering respite from the bustle of the city. The design brief called for warmth,
natural light, expansive open spaces, and energy efficiency, resulting in a comfortable, modern retreat.
From the moment of arrival, the house creates a sense of openness. A bridge connects the parking area to the
entrance porch, leading to an open corridor that frames uninterrupted views of the Ngong Hills. Living spaces
are arranged on either side of this axis, with large rear-facing windows and sliding doors that extend the interior
into the backyard. High ceilings and tall windows enhance the sense of volume while ensuring ample daylight
throughout.
The ground floor accommodates a guest bedroom and servant’s quarters as private living spaces, while the
kitchen and laundry are semi-private zones carefully connected to the open-plan lounge and dining areas — the
heart of the home for family gatherings and entertaining.
The first floor is entirely private, housing three ensuite bedrooms, a master suite oriented to capture hillside
views, and a semi-private family room that fosters intimacy and relaxation. Rising above, the second and final
level introduces a semi-private entertainment area, designed as a flexible space for leisure and social activities.
Blending functionality with elegance, this residence balances privacy and openness, creating a contemporary
