The clients envisioned a home that would reflect the charm of traditional African architecture while embracing the elegance and comfort of modern living. Their brief called for a design that blended cultural authenticity with contemporary sophistication, offering both family intimacy and generous spaces for entertaining.
This vision inspired a concept centered on the iconic, rocket-shaped pitched roof — a modern interpretation of traditional African forms — which defines the entrance and establishes a strong architectural identity. The residence is thoughtfully arranged to balance private and public realms. The left wing of the house accommodates three bedrooms, including a spacious master suite, ensuring privacy and retreat. In contrast, the right wing opens into expansive public spaces, including the living room, dining area, and kitchen, designed for family gatherings and social life.
Complementing the main 3-bedroom bungalow, a 150-square-meter (1,615 sq. ft.) self-contained guest wing provides a welcoming environment for visitors, complete with a guest bedroom, alfresco space, and staff quarters. Together, the main house and guest wing create a total of 532 square meters (5,726 sq. ft.) of refined living space.
The design celebrates its Tigoni setting, with an open deck and fire pit at the rear of the house that frame sweeping views of rolling tea plantations. By harmonizing tradition and modernity, the Tigoni Residence offers a warm, sophisticated lifestyle that is rooted in place yet adaptable to contemporary family living.
